Choosing the right lock grade
Door locks sold in the US are commonly rated under the ANSI/BHMA grading system. Grade 1 is the heaviest-duty rating and is what we usually suggest for exterior doors such as the front door and a door from the garage. Grade 2 suits most residential exterior doors with lighter use, and Grade 3 is generally fine for interior doors.
We carry locks from established manufacturers in all three grades, plus electronic and keypad locks for people who would rather not carry keys.
Not sure what you need? Ask first
If you are moving into a new home, opening an office or just want a second opinion, we can look at your doors and suggest what to keep, what to rekey and what to upgrade. The old site offered this as a free, no-obligation consultation — ask when you call.
- Which doors need a deadbolt or a stronger strike plate
- Whether rekeying is enough or new hardware is worth it
- Master key or keyless options for rentals and offices

Frequently asked questions
How much does a locksmith cost in Newark?
It depends on the job, the lock and the time of day. We quote on the phone from your description and confirm the price on site before any work begins, so there are no surprises.
Do you need proof that I live at the address?
Yes. For any lockout we ask for photo ID or another document that ties you to the home, business or vehicle. It protects you as much as us.
Can you rekey instead of replacing my locks?
Usually, yes. Rekeying changes the pins inside your existing lock so old keys stop working. It is often less expensive than new hardware when the locks are in good condition.
Which parts of Newark do you cover?
We dispatch from the North Ward (07104) and cover every Newark ZIP code, from Downtown and the Ironbound to Vailsburg, Weequahic and the airport area. See the service-area list below.
